Laura is an adorable 16-month-old girl from Guatemala. She lives with her family of nine in Guatemala’s rural highlands. When Laura’s mother is out, Laura’s eldest sister takes care of her. Laura’s father works every day in the countryside planting coffee, blackberries, and fava beans. Laura’s mother weaves and sells traditional Mayan textiles.
Laura is underweight and small for her age due to malnutrition. If left untreated, malnutrition may leave Laura with a weak immune system and may cause her to miss key mental and physical developmental milestones.
Our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq (WK), has agreed to assist Laura by putting her on a nutrition program involving growth monitoring, micronutrients, and food supplementation. WK is asking for $492 to fund Laura’s nutrition program, which is set to start on April 17.
Laura’s mother says, “Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the help that we will receive in order to better the health and development of our daughter.”

Laura received successful malnutrition treatment.
Since beginning treatment for malnutrition, Laura has been gaining weight and growing taller. Laura’s mother says that she has seen a great change in her daughter, and that everything they have received is helpful. Now Laura eats all of her food, and drinks clean water thanks to the water filter the family received. With continued treatment, we are confident that Laura will continue along this healthy trajectory.
Laura’s mother says, “Thank you for all that you do for my daughter, especially to the donors who have it in their hearts to help people and children like my daughter so that they can have better nutrition and grow better. Thank you for everything.”
