This is Yagman, a spirited 11-year-old boy from Nepal who was swinging on the branch of a tree when the branch broke and he fractured his left hand. Yagman has been missing his classes in the 4th grade because of the injury. Surgical costs are high. Yagman’s father, who works in India to support the family, and his mother, who works on the farm, are not able to take on additional expenses.
Yagman has been in immense pain since yesterday and has difficulty moving the injured hand. There is considerable swelling as well. He cannot eat or get dressed on his own any longer. His uncle brought him on a two hour jeep ride to reach Possible’s local clinic, Bayalpata Hospital.
For $195, the hospital’s orthopedic surgeon can place a padded splint and stabilize the fracture with metal rods and screws. In this way, Yagman’s wrist can heal properly, and he will have restored strength to his left hand over time.
