Three-year-old Brilliant lives in Uganda with his family. He is currently suffering from malnutrition caused by severe energy deficiency. His bodyweight is under 60% of normal.
Brilliant lives with his mother and father in a Ugandan village near the hospital. He is their only child, his brother having been lost to a heart condition. His parents are farmers who make their living working for others. When they are not working, they enjoy going to church and socializing.
Brilliant’s malnutrition has affected his ability to move and walk. He also has some developmental delays. While in the hospital, Brilliant will have therapeutic food and his mother will receive counseling on how to feed and care for him in the future. He will also be sent home with “plumpyNut,” a nutritious, peanut-based food supplement, and will be monitored until he reaches his goal weight.
$375 will cover the cost for Brilliant’s stay at the hospital, nutritional supplements, and education for his parents. Staff at the Kellermann Foundation, one of Watsi’s medical partners, will treat Brilliant. His parents were also able to raise $1 towards his medical care.
“I hope my son can grow stronger,” shares Brilliant’s mother. “Thank you to all the donors for helping Brilliant.”
