Tumusiime is a two-year-old boy from Uganda. He was born with a swelling in his umbilical region, which his mother assumed would subside on its own. Over time, the swelling has grown in size and become painful for Tumusiime.
Doctors have diagnosed Tumusiime with an umbilical hernia and advised that he undergo repair surgery. If left untreated, Tumusiime will be at risk of obstruction or strangulation of the hernia, which could have serious health consequences.
Tumusiime is one of six children. His parents both work hard as farmers. They cultivate crops to feed their family and sell the surplus of their yield for a small amount of money. When Tumusiime experiences pain, his mother stays home from work to look after him. Lately, given his increased discomfort, she hasn’t been able to work, which impacts the family’s income.
On May 10, Tumusiime will undergo hernia repair surgery. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $249 to fund the treatment.
Tumusiime’s mother wants her son to grow up strong and healthy. She is grateful to Watsi for helping support his operation.
