Benson is a quiet father of three who has trouble running his fruit stand because of his vision.
Benson’s eyes first started giving him trouble when he was in high school. Because he hasn’t had money to seek medical attention, the problem has gotten worse over time. Benson now has cataracts in both eyes, resulting in partial blindness that can only be corrected through surgery.
Benson sells fresh fruit to make a living. Because of his cataracts, he has to close his business while it’s still light out so he can make it home safely. He tells AMHF that he has trouble choosing the right fruit when buying products to sell, and that “all these challenges have made the income from the business very low.” Benson wants to go back to being the bread winner of his family so he can give his children the kind of life he never had a chance to live.
