Maria Cecilia successfully received a mastectomy and completed her course of chemotherapy for breast cancer.
According to Maria Cecilia’s doctor, “She is recovering well and in good spirits. Without your funding, this case would not have been possible.”
Maria Cecilia is a 46-year-old woman from an indigenous community in Guatemala who, several months ago, had the heart-stopping realization that she had a lump growing in her breast. Treatment for breast cancer is very limited in Guatemala due to its cost, but Maria Cecilia heard about Wuqu’ Kawoq and came in for a consultation, where they confirmed her diagnosis.
Fortunately, Maria Cecilia’s cancer seems to be localized to the breast. Doctors at Wuqu’ Kawoq are hopeful that removing her breast will complately cure her. However, removing Maria Cecilia’s breast will be a major surgery, and it will cost much more than she is able to pay.
Maria Cecilia has a large and loving family that includes multiple children who depend on her. Let’s help her pay for this surgery so she get on with her life!
