Yeun is an elderly rice farmer with two daughters and five grandchildren. Yeun shared that her husband passed many years ago, and she lives with her eldest daughter, who is a farmer. At home, Yeun likes to listen to monks pray on the radio.
Two years ago, Yeun developed a cataract in her left eye, which causes her blurry vision and difficulty seeing objects clearly, including colors and faces. She also experiences trouble eating and taking care of herself, and she is worried about falling when walking. As a result, Yeun cannot go places on her own.
When Yeun learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four hours seeking treatment. On February 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. CSC is requesting $229 to fund her procedure.
Yeun says, “After surgery, I hope I can take care of myself and help my daughter around the house. I want to look after my grandchildren.”

Yeun underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly again.
Yeun’s cataract surgery was a success! After years of believing her eyesight would not improve, when Yeun was able to open her eyes the following morning after surgery, she was thrilled beyond words. Yeun’s improved eyesight has reinvigorated her, and she looks forward to cooking and taking care of her grandchildren, visiting the local pagoda, and reconnecting with her community.
Yeun’s daughter said, “My mother has been so relieved that she can see well again. She can recognize faces, help me with household chores, and can go outside without help. Thank you to the wonderful CSC staff and the people who helped to pay for her to have this surgery.”
