Sophy is a 39-year-old farmer from Cambodia. She is married with one son and two daughters. When Sophy is not working at the farm, she can be found cooking for her family, looking after her children, or watching TV.
In December 2016, Sophy was involved in an accident involving a piece of wood falling on her lower leg, leaving a painful mass in that area. She had great difficulties in walking because of this injury and was unable to work at the farm.
Sophy came to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, on May 11 and the doctors performed a biopsy of the mass. The results showed that she has soft tissue sarcoma, a type of cancer. Afterwards, she returned to our medical partner to receive treatment of the sarcoma, and the surgeons recommended performing a below-knee amputation on her leg to prevent the cancer from spreading. Her treatment is scheduled for May 26. After the amputation, Sophy will be able to continue working and spending time with her family comfortably.
