Benon is a 56-year-old father of eight from Uganda. Both he and his wife work on their fields to grow food for the family. When he is not working, Benon enjoys spending time with his grandchildren. He loves telling them stories about his youth and how he used to go trading and selling coffee in the Congo and Rwanda, and fishing in the Munyaga River.
For the past six months, however, Benon has been living with a painful hernia that has made it difficult for him to work in his fields. He visited our medical partner’s care center, Bwindi Community Hospital, and learned that he will need surgery to relieve him of his pain.
Benon is scheduled to undergo hernia repair surgery on May 4, and is requesting $229 to cover the total cost of his treatment and care. After surgery, Benon is looking forward to working in his banana trees free of pain.
“I send my great thanks to all the donors helping me with my treatment. I could not afford it and the pain is difficult,” says Benon.
