Puja is a five-year-old child living in Nepal with her parents, brother, and grandparents. Her parents and grandparents work on their farm, and sell the surplus from their harvest for an income. Depending upon the harvest, they may have to supplement their earnings with other means.
Two months ago, Puja fell off the porch of her house and fractured her right hand. Her parents took her to a nearby clinic for treatment, and she was provided a cast to stabilize her hand. Days later, while she was wearing the cast, she fell a second time off the roof of her house and re-fractured her hand. Her right hand has been painful and swollen ever since, and she needs help with eating, bathing, and getting dressed.
Puja’s family has been unable to seek treatment for her hand since her second accident. They tried seeking further evaluation at the nearby clinic, but her fracture was too extensive to be resolved at that location. Puja’s father brought her to a care center under the oversight of our medical partner, Possible, for further treatment.
Puja’s doctors at Possible have recommended a surgical intervention to reset her hand and set in a cast. They tell us that for $195 Puja can receive the advanced orthopedic surgical procedure she needs, including supplies, imaging, medication, and casting.
After her cast is removed, Puja’s hand will no longer have swelling, and she will be able to do daily life activities easily and painlessly. “I hope her hand heals with this treatment,” shares her father, “because I cannot afford to take her to a private hospital.”
