Chan is a three-year-old boy from Cambodia who has one brother and three sisters. He enjoys watching TV and listening to music. Chan traveled two hours with his mom to reach Watsi’s medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), for treatment.
When he was one year old, Chan received a poorly administered injection in his right quadriceps muscle. This caused quadriceps fibrosis, which prevents him from bending his right leg.
Fibrosis occurs due to the thickening and scarring of connective tissue. Chan has quadriceps fibrosis, which causes his right knee to be stiff.
Surgeons at CSC will perform a quadricepsplasty to release the fibrosis. The surgery will greatly improve mobility and the range of motion of Chan’s right leg.
After the operation, Chan will be able to walk easily and bend his leg again.
