Samol is a 31-year-old goldsmith from Cambodia. He has one son, one daughter, and enjoys playing football at his free time.
When he was a child, Samol had a serious ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Samol experiences pain, ear discharge, headaches, and tinnitus. He cannot communicate well with others because of the hearing impairment.
Samol traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On April 27th, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $464 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
“I hope that after surgery my ear discharge and the ringing in my ear will go away and my hearing will get bettter,” Samol shared.

Samol’s surgery was successful! His doctors were able to repair his perforated ear drum. He is now only experiencing mild pain at the incision site. There is no sign of infection and the discharge and headaches he was experiencing have gone away. Once he fully recovers, his quality of life will improve significantly.
“I feel very happy to be able to hear better. Now I can communicate with my wife, children, and neighbors clearly,” shared Samol.
Samol’s father also told Watsi, “I am happy that his ear condition has improved, especially because he can now hear what we are saying to him.”
