Chimkuyu is an 89-year-old maize farmer from Malawi. He has three children and lives with some of his grandchildren. When he is not tending to his farm or doing chores, Chimkuyu likes to spend his free time playing with his young grandchildren.
Four months ago, Chimkuyu started experiencing urinary discomfort. He went to our medical partner’s care center, Nkhoma Hospital, and was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia, or prostate enlargement. He is scheduled to receive a prostate resection on January 10, and our medical partner is requesting $726 to fund his treatment.
“I have had a lot of fear,” says Chimkuyu. “I want to live a normal life.”
Chimkuyu’s prognosis once surgery is complete is excellent, and he is looking forward to going home to his farm and family after his surgery.
