Meet Nary, a 52-year-old farmer from Cambodia. Nary’s profession, growing food, is also related to her passion. When she isn’t farming or looking after her five children, she loves to spend her free time cooking.
About fifteen years ago, Nary developed a polyp, or noncancerous growth, on the lining of the nasal passage of her left nostril. She soon had the polyp surgically removed at a hospital in Phnom Penh. But since then, scarring from the procedure has caused Nary to develop nostril stenosis, a narrowing of the nasal inlet. This narrowing causes Nary pain and makes it difficult for her to breathe.
Nary would normally not be able to afford further medical care for her nose. Fortunately, though, she heard from a neighbor about Watsi’s subsidized treatments. She took the four-hour journey with her son to reach one of our medical partners, Children’s Surgical Centre.
There, doctors told Nary that they can surgically correct her nasal passage by releasing the scar tissue that has formed there and performing a skin flap procedure. For $450, we can fund her operation—set to take place on March 13—as well as her four-day hospital stay.
Let’s help this busy farmer and mother breathe easily once more.
