Lydia is a 55-year-old widow and a mother to three children. Her husband passed away in 1999 leaving her to care for the children as the sole breadwinner. Her two daughters are now married and her son works with the police. She works on her banana and coffee plantation to make ends meet. However, the farm’s production is unreliable and the income low. She is only able to sustain her day-to-day needs.
For the last year, Lydia has been experiencing lower abdominal pain and bleeding. She visit a hospital and had surgery recommended. She could not raise the required $426. She then came to Nyakibale Hospital for review where she has been diagnosed with premalignant cervical lesion. If not treated, she will be at risk of full-blown cancer further deteriorating her health. She appeals for help to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $219 to fund Lydia’s surgery. On October 26th, she will undergo gynecological surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Once recovered, Lydia will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
Lydia says “I will always live to thank God for what you will have done for me after undergoing my surgery because this problem has caused me a lot of pain.”
