Four months ago, eight-year-old Abdey fell on his way to school in Ethiopia. He hurt his leg and developed a serious wound. Now, Abdey’s wound has turned into osteomyelitis, a bone infection that will render his leg useless if he doesn’t receive surgery, long-term antibiotics, and nutritional support as soon as possible.
Abdey’s favorite subject is English. He dreams of being a teacher when he grows up. But as a result of his injury and inability to walk without pain, Abdey has stopped going to school.

Abdey received surgery to treat osteomyelitis and enable him to go to school.
During his stay in the hospital, Abdey received multiple debridements to remove infected tissue from his leg. He now has a small cast, but he is doing much better and can walk with the help of crutches. Soon, he will return to the hospital to have the cast removed.
Abdey and his father are very grateful for the care they received. When Abdey became sick, his father wasn’t sure how he could afford the treatment to save his son’s leg. “Thank you very much!” he said when he learned of the help from Watsi. “Thank you! Thank you! May God bless you!”
