Kim Heang is a 71-year-old man from Cambodia. Kim Heang is unmarried and lives with his brother who is a farmer. Kim Heang used to work fixing flat tires but now stays at home because he is older and his vision has deteriorated. He enjoys watching Khmer dramas and boxing programs on TV, but it is getting more difficult to see as well.
Five years ago, Kim Heang developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him burry vision, irritation, tearing, cloudy lens, and photophobia. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Kim Heang learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for eight hours with his niece seeking treatment. On October 2nd, doctors will perform phacoemulsification and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Kim Heang said, “I hope my surgery corrects my vision so I can help my brother with work at home and be able to take care of myself.”
