Yan is a 71-year-old grandmother from Cambodia. She has three sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren. She likes to do housework, listen to monks pray, hear the news on the radio, and read religious books in her free time.
Yan developed a cataract in each eye about a year ago, causing her blurred vision, irritation, cloudy lenses, and photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light). It is difficult for her to see things clearly, to recognize faces, to do any work, or to go anywhere by herself.
Yan knew about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), because her neighbor had surgery at CSC before. She traveled for one and a half hours with her son to reach CSC for treatment.
On June 7, surgeons at CSC will perform a small incision cataract surgery and intraocular lens implant in each eye. Yan should be able to see clearly again. CSC is requesting $292 to fund medications, surgical materials, and four nights of hospital stay.
