Muhwezi is a midwife working at a small clinic from Uganda. The 39-year-old woman is also the mother of two sons and a daughter who are all in school. Her husband is working as a lab assistant at the same clinic. Muhwezi loves jogging whenever she is free and also keeps domestic animals such as ducks, rabbits and chickens. She laments of the small salary which is only sufficient to meet the cost of their daily living.
Three months ago, Muhwezi started noting swelling around her chin. The swelling was associated with a swallowing problem and was painful upon pressing. She took antibiotics hoping that the symptoms will go away but unfortunately, the swelling persisted. Muhwezi came to Nyakibale Hospital and had a scan done. She was diagnosed with a cystic mass and an excision was recommended. If not treated, she is afraid the mass might become malignant. Fortunately, on July 6th, surgeons will remove the mass. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is requesting $188 to fund the procedure.
Muhwezi says, “I think that when the swelling is removed, I will get better because I first tried out oral medicine but all in vain.”
