Sok is a 61-year-old grandfather from Cambodia. He has three sons, three daughters, and 21 grandchildren. In his free time, Sok likes to watch boxing on TV and listen to monks pray at the pagoda.
About nine months ago, Sok developed a cataract in each eye. The cataracts have caused him to develop blurred vision, cloudy lenses, and an extreme sensitivity to light, in turn making it difficult for Sok to see things clearly, work, or go anywhere on his own.
On June 26, Sok will undergo a phaco procedure and an intraocular lens implant in each eye. Our medical partner, CSC, is requesting $398 to fund surgical materials, medications, and a four-night hospital stay. The treatment, once completed, will hopefully restore Sok’s vision to its former state and improve his quality of life.

Sok underwent cataract surgery.
His eye cataract was successfully removed from his left eye, and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, he was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and prevent infection. He will return soon for the same surgery on his right eye.
Sok says, “I feel very happy that I can see everything clearly again so that I can help my family do some work at home like clear the grass around my house, take care of my grandchildren, and go anywhere outside by myself.”
