Vorn is a 81-year-old former rice farmer from Cambodia. Vorn has one son, four daughters, ten grandchildren. She and her husband are rice farmers, but she does not work much anymore. They all are living together in one house. Vorn and her husband like to spend time with their grandchildren, telling them old stories and teaching them about farming. Vorn enjoys going to the pagoda to join in ceremonies. If she cannot go to the pagoda, she likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio.
Three years ago, Vorn developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her irritation, tearing and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Vorn learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled a long distance seeking treatment. On May 13th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I hope that I can see everything better. Then I will watch my grandchildren do farming and I wish I can walk to the pagoda by myself and continue to get more meditation there,” Vorn said.
