Chen is a farmer from Cambodia. He has two daughters and four sons. He says he has no free time, as he just looks after kids and works, when he can. He drove four hours by public taxi to get here from his village.
Twenty years ago, Chen had an ear infection. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the ear drum, in his right ear to perforate. For this reason, Chen experiences hearing loss, ear discharge, and pain. He complains that he has spent so much money treating himself with different medicines, and he’s worried about further hearing loss.
Chen traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On December 12, he will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in his right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care.
He says, “I hope I can stop having ear discharge and have good hearing.”
