Roeun is a 48-year-old married farmer from Cambodia. He likes to garden and go fishing in his spare time.
Roeun has been diagnosed with osteonecrosis of the hips. This means that there is a interruption of blood flow to Roeun’s hips, causing the breakdown of the bone and joint. Roeun experiences significant pain and it is difficult for him to walk.
On June 26, Roeun will undergo total hip replacement surgery on his left hip. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), is asking for $1,025 in donations to cover Roeun’s surgery, hospital stay and physiotherapy sessions.
After this initial surgery, Roeun may need to return to CSC for surgeons to operate on his right hip.

Roeun underwent hip replacement surgery.
Roeun’s treatment for his left hip went well. Following the procedure, he was given pain medication to take as needed and he had one week of physiotherapy at CSC before being discharged. He is recovering nicely and is able to walk more easily than before. However, he still experiences right hip pain. Roeun is scheduled to return for the same procedure on his right hip.
Roeun says, “I’m happy with the results. I can walk better now. Thanks so much to all of the staff at CSC for helping me.”
