Edson is a nine year old student and the firstborn child to his father. Edson’s father and mother were never married and when Edson was around three months old his mother realized he had disabilities. She left him in the care of his father and grandparents and moved away to a new area. Edson’s grandmother has been taking care of him ever since. Edson’s father supports and cares for his parents who are with Edson and his family through his small business of welding. His income is not much, but enough to get them by.
Edson has clubfoot of his left foot. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes.
Fortunately, Edson traveled to visit our medical partner’s care center, Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre. There, surgeons will perform clubfoot repair surgery on August 10. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $935 to fund Edson’s clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will be able to walk easily.
Edson’s grandmother says “I love my grandson. He is a good boy and I want the best for him. But his foot is being a big challenge to his walking, making him to struggle a lot. Please help him have this treatment as his father cannot afford the cost.”
