Like many people in her community, Millicent earns an income from farming. She is pregnant and wants nothing more than to give birth to a healthy baby.
Lwala Community Alliance is already helping Millicent prepare by providing educational services through its maternal health program. Millicent and other expectant mothers learn about the importance of creating a birth plan and saving money in case of emergencies. She also learned that “[HIV] positive mothers can give birth to a [HIV] negative baby;” an important lesson for anyone living in HIV/AIDs endemic communities.
The funds raised will provide the medical services necessary to ensure a safer delivery for mother and child. For $215 Millicent will receive pre-natal care, hospital delivery, and a post-natal checkup.
