Victor is a five-month-old baby boy from Kenya. He was born very healthy, however when he arrived home, after being discharged, he started crying and feeling uncomfortable. The following day, Victor’s family noticed that his stomach was swollen, and later found that he was not passing stool. They rushed Victor to the facility where he was born and was immediately referred to our medical partner’s care center, BethanyKids Hospital. His situation was urgent. Upon arrival Victor was examined and a surgical plan was formed. Victor’s first surgery was a colostomy, from which he recovered fully. He then went in for a second reparative surgery and, having now fully recovered from his first two operations, is scheduled to undergo a third to close the colostomy.
Victor is the last born in a family of six children. His parents are not financially well-off. They both sell groceries and are sometimes take on additional small jobs. The little income they earn is just enough to feed their family. His parents are not in a position to raise any extra money to cater for Victor’s medical bill. His mother is appealing for financial help.
Victor previously underwent a colostomy, in which the end of the colon is brought through an opening in the abdominal wall. Oftentimes, colostomies are temporary and may call for closure. This is the case for Victor. His colostomy requires closure in order to restore his body’s proper function and prevent future complications.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,084 to cover the cost of a colostomy closure for Victor. The surgery is scheduled to take place on February 7th and, once completed, will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Victor’s mother says, “We have seen the hand of God through these tough times for us and we still believe that He will see us through to this last surgery.”
