Akankunda is a tailor from Uganda. She is married with three children, and all are studying in school.
Four years ago, Akankunda began to experience troubling symptoms, including shortness of breath, inability to swallow, and an irritating cough. She was diagnosed with a goiter, an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Akankunda receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on December 19 at our medical partner’s care center. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $240, and she and her family need help raising money.
Akankunda says, “I will continue with tailoring after surgery as I will be relieved of this condition that has given me a hard time.”
