Oeung is a 73-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. Oeung has two daughters, five sons, and fifteen grandchildren. Oeung spends his time planting vegetables and listening to the news and monks praying on the radio. He loves to play and talk with his grandchildren.
One year ago, Oeung developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him itchiness, tearing, photophobia, and blurry vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Oeung learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for two and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 15th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
His daughter said, “He is so busy at home everyday, when he cannot see clearly like this it makes me unhappy and I worry about him so much. I hope my father will get to see better after surgery so he can continue his work at home and play with all of his grandchildren again.”
