Ra is a 31-year-old husband and farmer from Cambodia. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Center (CSC), shares that he enjoys playing volleyball and listening to pop songs when he can.
A little over a month ago, Ra was in a motorcycle-automobile accident when he was seriously injured and hospitalized for two weeks. Unfortunately, he was unable to pay for surgery and still has serious facial deformities.
CSC recently diagnosed Ra with a zygomaticomaxillary fracture, a complex fracture of multiple bones in the face which impairs his vision. Because of a blunt force trauma to his cheek during the accident, these fractures often correspond to a loss in cheek bone projection.
Ra now has limited movement of his right eye and poor vision. “Because of the facial deformities and poor vision caused by the injuries, Ra can’t work on the farm,” CSC says.
With $405, CSC will be able to provide Ra with the necessary surgery, anesthesia, post-operative therapy, and work up. A two-part surgery, including reduction or replacement of the broken bones and then a follow up placement of an internal fixation device, would properly treat the damaged area. In the future, if needed, an additional muscle repair surgery can be done with this amount of funding.
Ra says, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly and I can go back to work to support my family properly again.”
