Hoeun has five sons, three daughters, and several grandchildren. She is a farmer along with her husband and they work hard to take care of their family.
Hoeun has had type 2 diabetes for 15 years which has gone mostly untreated. Two weeks ago she developed a severe infection on her left foot. This makes it difficult to do her daily tasks and presents a danger if left untreated.
Surgeons at our medical partner Children’s Surgeon Centre will perform a disarticulation amputation to remove the gangrene and prevent future complications. The surgery and care is $446 and Hoeun’s family needs help raising the funds.
Hoeun said, “I am thankful that I can return home soon and be healed. This treatment will allow me to use my foot again.”

Hoeun underwent surgery for a severe infection on her foot.
Hoeun did not seek treatment for her diabetes due to lockdowns from the COVID pandemic and the dysfunction of the nerves in her toes, which would otherwise have caused her much pain. Surgeons at CSC were able to remove the gangrenous toe and keep the rest of her foot intact so that she will be able to walk well after recovery. The medical team encouraged her to seek care for her diabetes to avoid further complications. When she returns home, she will be able to walk again and resume her daily life with much greater ease.
Hoeun said: “I am relieved the doctors were able to fix my foot, and I can return to my home and my family. I want to be able to keep up with my grandchildren and help my husband in the rice fields again. Thank you for your help!”
