Meet Mugambagye, a 49-year-old married father to three children. He works as a cook at a secondary school in Uganda.
Mugambagye shares with our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, that he has lived with an abdominal swelling for the last 30 years. Initially, he was not concerned but the mass has continued to grow in size over the years and has become so painful that Mugambagye is no longer able to lift heavy loads.
On August 24, Mugambagye will undergo a $187 surgery to remove the abdominal lipoma.
“I hope to be relieved of this condition so that I can go back to work,” says Mugambagye.

Mugambagye underwent surgery.
Mugambagye actually underwent a hernia repair instead of a mass excision as originally expected. Mugambagye was originally diagnosed with an anterior abdominal lipoma, but during surgery, they found out that the swelling was due to an epigastric hernia. This surgery will relieve him of pain, and he will no longer be at risk of complications.
Mugambagye says, “I want to thank you Watsi for this surprise because I could never manage surgery bills.”
