Sokomo is a farmer from Kenya and mother of six. Her children are all married and she lives with her last born son in a rural upcountry area. Sokomo is a farmer, she plants millet and takes care of her goats. Her occupational options are extremely limited because of her age hence she gets help from her son. Their family is suffering a lot because they don’t have enough food in the family due to long droughts and they only depend on farming.
Two weeks ago, Sokomo sustained a fracture of the left hip after a fall on a rock while chasing after her goats. It is difficult for her to walk, and she is in chronic pain.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner can help. On June 4th, Sokomo will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will help her walk easily again. Now, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is requesting $1,065 to fund this procedure.
Sokomo’s son shared, “She is sleeping helplessly in bed, we have almost nothing to offer for her surgery. I hope she gets treated, she really deserves a good life.”
