Woodyson is 13 years old. He lives in a small town in central Haiti with his mother, grandparents, and younger brother and sister. Woodyson enjoys going to school and church and playing with his friends.
About three years ago, Woodyson became ill with rheumatic fever. This fever infected his heart, severely damaging his mitral valve and limiting his heart’s ability to circulate blood to his body. Now, he urgently requires treatment.
Woodyson will fly to the Cayman Islands to receive treatment. On April 24, he will undergo cardiac surgery. This $25,000 surgery is subsidized by Have a Heart Cayman Islands. Woodyson’s family also needs help to fund the costs of surgery prep. The $1,500 bill covers labs, medicines, and checkup and followup appointments. It also supports passport obtainment and the social workers from our medical partner, Haiti Cardiac Alliance, who will accompany Woodyson’s family overseas.
Woodyson says, “I am a little scared about the surgery, but I am looking forward to being normal after the surgery is over.”
