Evalyne is a 22-year-old woman from Uganda. She loves acting in her local youth drama group, playing netball, and running. She also enjoys going to school and hopes to complete her studies so that she can find a job and help take care of her family.
Her parents are farmers, growing rice, maize, coffee, beans, and peanuts. Evalyne often helps her parents on the farm and takes care of her six siblings when her parents are out working.
Ten years ago, when Evalyne was only 12, she started noticing a lump on one of her breasts. Over time, the mass has grown in size and become painful. In May, she went to a clinic near her home. The clinic referred her to Bwindi Community Hospital, our medical partner’s care center, where doctors advised her to have a mass excision to help relieve the pain and have a histologist test for cancer cells.
Evalyne and her parents can’t afford to pay for the surgery. Our medical partner, The Kellermann Foundation, is requesting $196 to fund the treatment, scheduled for May 16.
Evalyne is grateful to Watsi for making this operation possible. She says, “I thank the donors for supporting my care, and the other people who are in need. I pray to God to bless them.”
