Thaing is a 54-year-old married woman from Cambodia who has three daughters and two sons. She collects recycling as a means of generating income for her family. In her free time, Thiang likes to do housework and spend time with her children.
Two months ago, Thiang developed an ear infection that perforated her left eardrum. Consequently, Thiang experiences recurrent ear discharge, hearing loss, and tinnitus, or a ringing in her ear. She went to a private clinic for treatment, but her symptoms did not improve. It is difficult for Thiang to listen, and she worries about developing future hearing complications.
Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, is requesting $423 to fund a myringoplasty for Thiang, which is scheduled to take place on June 30. Surgeons will repair her perforated eardrum, and, if all goes well, Thiang’s hearing will gradually improve.
