Shwe is a 45-year-old woman who has recently moved with her family to Moe Ko Kin village in Thailand from Burma. She lives with her husband, five daughters, and two sons. Shwe’s farm and crops were destroyed by Cyclone Nargis in 2008, so the family moved to Thailand. Shwe works as an agricultural day laborer. They do not have electricity or running water.
In April 2017, Shwe started to feel unwell. She had uncomfortable gynecological symptoms. The back of her head hurt, and she had cramps in her abdominal area. At a clinic, Shwe was told that she had a blood clot. She needs to undergo a hysterectomy.
Since Shwe has been unwell, she has had to stop working. Shwe’s husband is worried about his wife, and hopes that she will be better after the surgery.
On May 7, Shwe will undergo a hysterectomy at Mae Sot General Hospital. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to fund her treatment.
