Olivia is a farmer and mother of 5 children: 2 sons and 3 daughters all of whom are in school. Olivia did not proceed with the school as her parents could not raise the school fees. Olivia farms with her husband mainly for their family to eat, but also sells the minimal surplus to generate an income for their family. Their income supports their day-to-day needs as a family with little savings for medical care.
Twenty-seven years ago, Olivia began to experience troubling symptoms, including anterior neck swelling, persistent headaches and recently, shortness of breath and difficulty in breathing. She was diagnosed with a cystic goitre and requires surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF), is helping Olivia receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on September 6th where surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. AMHF is helping Olivia raise $252 to fund this procedure.
Olivia shared, “We struggle as a family to get what to eat and pay the school fee. In such poor health, I can do nothing, but I have faith that with your support, I will have my health back and return back to normal life.”
