Phea is a 55-year-old housewife from Cambodia. Phea has two sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. She likes to cook food, do some housework, and enjoys listening to monks pray on her phone.
Five months ago, Phea developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her pain, irritation, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Phea learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled to the hospital seeking treatment. On May 5th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
“I do worry about my mother’s eye problem, I hope that the surgery will change her vision for the better, she will not be in pain, and she can go outside by herself.” Phea’s son said.

Phea underwent eye surgery to restore her vision.
Phea’s surgery was successful! Her doctors removed the cataract in her right eye that was causing her blurry vision and making it difficult for her to walk. She can now see clearly and go anywhere outside. She will also be able to see her two sons, three daughters, and five grandchildren. Her quality of life has improved significantly and she can now continue cooking and doing housework. She was discharged from our medical partner’s care facility with eye drops and has been scheduled for a followup appointment at their clinic.
Her son shared, “I can see that my mom is already much happier again. She will soon go back to her daily work, cooking, and trips to the market. She can also travel and visit anyplace she wants to go.”
