Liset is a 4-year-old girl from Guatemala suffering from congenital hypothyroidism, meaning her thyroid gland doesn’t work properly. Lack of thyroid hormone has prevented her brain from developing normally, and as a result she hasn’t developed basic language and motor skills. Liset’s condition is treatable, and fortunately the daily thyroid medication she needs is very inexpensive. However, for the initial phase of treatment, Liset needs frequent bloodwork to determine the proper dose of medication, as well as speech and physical therapy to help her recover basic language and motor skills.
Liset is an only child and her parents hope we can come up with the funds to pay for this life-changing treatment. Let’s help Liset develop normally by providing her access to the medical care she needs!
Note: Unlike other Watsi cases, Liset’s recovery may take a long time. However, donors will receive an update after the initial, intensive phase of treatment letting them know how Liset is progressing. Let’s get this girl the medical care she deserves!
