Savat is a 68-year-old retired food seller. He has two children, who both work at a garment factory in town, and three grandchildren. Some of Savat’s favorite activities include listening to the news on the radio and visiting the local pagoda with his wife.
Five months ago, Savat developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to experience blurry vision and to see eye floaters. This makes it difficult for him to read. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own.
When Savat learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for one hour seeking treatment. On August 3rd, doctors will perform cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Savant says, “I hope after surgery I can go outside, recognize faces, and help my wife sell food at the village market.”

Savat underwent cataract surgery so he can see clearly.
For several years, Savat was unable to independently go outside because his vision had slowly deteriorated. He could no longer work because he could not see well enough to count money. After surgery at Children’s Surgical Centre, he and his wife returned to their village, and his sight quickly improved after just a few days of rest. The cataract surgery has allowed him to contribute to his family again, be more independent and drastically improved his life.
Savat said: “I am so relieved I can recognize the faces of my family and everyone I see. I felt useless because it was hard for me to go outside, and I had to stay in my house all the time. Thank you to those who paid for my surgery so that I can have a better life and better support my children.”
