Pedro is a bright 13-year-old boy who lives in an extremely remote community in Guatemala. He speaks Chuj, a Mayan language, and not much Spanish. Because of lack of access to medical care in the area, he has never seen a doctor before.
Pedro was born without a right arm. The fingers on his left hand are also malformed. This combination makes any sort of basic activity difficult for Pedro. He’s managed to stay in school through middle school by teaching himself how to write with his left hand. But dressing himself, performing chores, and eating are all constant challenges.
$650 pays for Pedro’s prosthetic device. This will help him become self-sufficient and continue school, totally transforming his life.

Pedro received a prosthetic arm.
“Within 5 minutes of fitting Pedro with his new prosthetic arm, he was doing amazing things that often take older amputees weeks to months to master,” Pedro’s doctor writes. “This will totally transform Pedro’s life by permitting him to perform better in school and at home with basic activities. There’s nothing quite like being born without an arm and then, suddenly, after more than a decade, having one!”
