Govinda lives with his father, mother, one older brother and one older sister in the rural mountains of Nepal. His family sustains itself by farming on a small piece of land, but they only earn enough through farming to live on for six months. His father migrates to India to earn supplemental income to support them.
Govinda’s arm was badly burned when a pot of hot water spilled on it five months ago. He ended up with a burn contracture on his right elbow, a tightening of scarred skin around a second or third degree burn that restricts movement in the area.
Govinda spent 22 days at Nyaya Health’s hospital recovering from the burn, but it’s clear that he needs surgery to restore mobility to his arm. Govinda’s mother says she wants her son to reach higher education, and preventing this accident from turning into a permanent disability is the first step toward making that possible.
