Rochany is a 51-year-old traditional Khmer noodle seller from Cambodia. She has four sisters and lives alone near her older sister. When she not working, she likes to listen to the news on the radio or visit with her sisters.
Three years ago, Rochany developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision, tearing, and difficulty seeing at night. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, recognizing faces, and going anywhere outside.
When Rochany learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On December 6th, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Rochany shared, “I hope after surgery my eye can see better. I can sell noodles to earn money, and go out by myself again.”

Rochany underwent cataract surgery to improve her vision.
Rochany and her sister traveled to Children’s Surgical Centre for eye surgery. She was afraid to go but felt at ease with the surgeons and staff. After surgery, she was able to return to her province with eye drops that she’ll use to help with her healing. She is thrilled that she can see better, and return to her work of selling noodles on the roadside.
Rochany said: “I am so thankful that my eyesight is better. I can cook easier, and see the money to collect from customers, and I am not afraid that I will fall from not seeing well.”
