Meet Marvens, a three month old infant from Haiti, who is much loved by his parents.
Marvens has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain, and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, the circumference of Marvens’ head has been growing. While Marvens has already undergone one procedure to help heal his condition, the fluid in his brain has now started to accumulate again, and without additional treatment, he will experience severe physical and developmental delays.
Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $957 to cover the cost of surgery for Marvens, at Hospital Bernard Mevs, that will treat his hydrocephalus. This is the only site in the country where this care is currently available, and the procedure is scheduled to take place on January 12th. This critical treatment will place a shunt to drain the excess fluid from Marvens’s brain to reduce the intracranial pressure, and to greatly improve his quality of life. With proper care, Marvens should develop into a strong and healthy young boy.
The family is hoping that this procedure will allow their child to be healthy and happy.
