Eldard is a 65-year-old widower from Uganda with seven grown children and five grandchildren. Eldard has had a swollen prostate gland for some time, but in the last few months, it has started to cause him increased pain and discomfort, making urination difficult. He went to a local health center, where he was given a catheter and advised to go to the hospital. After examination, his surgeon has recommended a prostatectomy (removal of the prostate).
Eldard still works as a farmer and grows soy beans, vegetables, bananas, yams, and other crops. He has also started a small business processing and packaging local food crops. He is working with his neighbors to encourage them to grow crops that he can buy, dry, and package for later use. Although the business is not yet very profitable, he is hoping to grow it after his surgery, once he feels better. In his free time, Eldard enjoys walking around his garden and visiting his grandchildren when they are home from school during holidays.
Eldard wishes to convey his many thanks to the donors for their help with his treatment, which he cannot afford. He says, “I hope the donors will continue to help the needy. It is a great service.”
Our medical partner is requesting $314 to fund Eldard’s prostatectomy and hospital stay, scheduled for June 13.
