Rida is a 10-year-old girl from Cambodia and the only child in her family. Her parents are rice farmers in their province. When she is not in school, Rida enjoys reading, playing with toys, and listening to music. Her best subjects in school are math and Khmer literature. She wants to be a high school math teacher one day.
Eight months ago, Rida slipped on a wet floor and injured her right hip. She visited our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), with hip pain, stiffness, and abnormal gait. On June 2nd, surgeons at CSC will perform an osteotomy on her right hip to allow her to walk without pain again. Now, she needs help to fund this $425 procedure.
Rida’s parents shared that they hope her hip will improve after surgery and that she will be free of discomfort and worry.

Rida underwent an osteotomy so that she can walk with ease.
Rida received a successful surgery! She’ll keep her cast on for several weeks so her hip joint can heal. The surgery ensured that Rida’s hip injury will not worsen and she can be much more active now. After her surgery, Rida shared that she looks forward to returning to school, as she has missed many days.
Her mother shared, “Thank you to all the donors who helped my daughter to have surgery. Her health will improve and she can grow up as a normal child with pain or embarrassment.”
