Matt Ly is a 41-year-old tuk-tuk driver from Cambodia. He is married and has two sons and one daughter. His oldest son is in the 6th grade, his daughter is in the 3rd grade, and his youngest son is not in school yet and stays home with his mother. When Matt Ly has free time, he likes to play with his children or go on walks with his family.
In December 2022, Matt Ly was in a motorcycle collision and fractured his left radius (forearm). Currently, his arm is swollen and in constant pain, and he cannot drive his tuk-tuk.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), can help. On January 3rd, Matt Ly will undergo a fracture repair procedure to heal his arm so he can return to work to support his family. CSC is requesting $483 to cover the cost of this procedure. Matt Ly was able to gather $100 to contribute to his care.
Matt Ly shared: “I need to drive my tuk-tuk to feed my family. I hope I can use my hand again soon.”

Matt Ly underwent fracture repair surgery following an accident.
Matt Ly underwent successful surgery to repair his fractured radius. He rested in the hospital for several days with his arm elevated to reduce any swelling and will continue to keep his arm immobile for several weeks as he heals. The physiotherapy team taught him some exercises to increase his arm’s muscle strength and flexibility, which he will be able to start once the incision has healed. Although it may take up to two months to heal completely, Matt Ly is happy and hopeful that he will be able to use his arm again soon. He looks forward to returning to his work driving as soon as possible to support his family.
Matt Ly said: “I would like to thank the doctors and sponsors who aided my surgery. I am happy to be home again and looking forward to working again to feed my family.”
