Nah is a 73-year-old retired rice farmer from Cambodia. She has one daughter, three sons, and 16 grandchildren. She and her husband live with their eldest daughter, who is a grocery seller. Nah enjoys spending her time at the mosque.
Six years ago, Nah developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her to experience itchiness, eye tearing, and blurry vision. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own.
When Nah learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 18th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and place an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Nah says, “I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly so I can take care of myself and my husband well.”

Nah underwent cataract surgery so she can see clearly and care for herself and her husband.
After experiencing declining vision for the last six years, Nah was excited to hear from a neighbor about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), to see if they could help. Nah just underwent successful cataract surgery and returned home in good health! Nah is thrilled that she can live more independently now and looks forward to supporting her family by cooking and helping care for her grandchildren.
Nah’s daughter said, “Before her surgery, my mother never left the house due to poor eyesight. She is happy that her eyesight has already improved. She can recognize faces and help me with housework and children. Thank you for supporting my mother’s operation and to the wonderful staff at the hospital.”
