Meet Elisha! He’s two years old and lives with his family in Tanzania. Elisha was born with a clubbed left foot which makes it difficult for him to put weight on his foot and walk normally. Elisha was identified as a candidate for treatment through a community outreach program in a town eight hours away from the center.
Elisha’s parents work as subsistence farmers, and use any income they make to pay for food for their family. They cannot afford the cost of Elisha’s treatment. Fortunately, we can help - it is expected that with a series of casts and surgery Elisha’s foot will recover fully and he will never know that he was born with a birth defect.
With $1,160, Elisha will receive this treatment and first have corrective casts before surgery to reset the bones in his leg and foot. He will be able to walk comfortably, and without limping.
“I would really like my son’s foot to be straightened,” his father said. “Then he can walk, and not fall all the time like he does now.”
