Having a baby for the first time can be a stressful experience anywhere. Ruth, who is pregnant with her first child at 16, is devoted to doing everything right.
“This is my first pregnancy, so [Lwala] is helping me learn how to prepare for a baby and save small amounts of money. They also taught me the importance of ANC [antenatal care] visits.”
Ruth was born into a region of the world where reproductive health problems are the leading killer of young women. Basic maternal healthcare, including pre-natal care, education, and a safe delivery in a hospital, can prevent many of the serious issues that typically arise, but Ruth cannot afford the expensive high-quality care.
“I stay at home with my mother, she is a farmer. My father does not live with us,” Ruth said. “I hope to have a healthy baby delivered safely at the Lwala Hospital. I also hope to return to school.”
Let’s help Ruth deliver safely and begin a healthy life with her baby!
